Aisin Seiki to Work with GM to Make Less Expensive Transmissions

09/05/96

Kyodo has reported that Aisin Seiki signed a memorandum with U.S. automaker General Motors about working to cut production costs of automatic transmissions for commercial vehicles. The Toyota-affiliated auto parts maker said it will begin to produce the automatic transmissions that GM's Allison Transmission Division currently makes for large-size buses. Sales of the transmissions are targeted at Japanese truck makers. Aisin said it will also supply other products that currently come from GM's Allison division, starting in 1998.
