Canada News Wire Issues Media Alert Over Stolen Autos

Canada News Wire issued a media alert concerning auto thefts. The agency announced that more vehicles were stolen in Canada in 1995 than ever before, and that many of them had been shipped to black markets overseas.

The agency also reported that Volkswagen Canada and will receive an award at the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police Annual Meeting in Ottawa for dramatically improved theft prevention results since 1993. The agency did not explain what steps or devices Volkswagen implemented to prevent theft.

The chiefs of police will also present the Canadian Auto Theft Bureau Award of Merit to a Ports Canada Police investigator who helped recover $2.8 million in stolen vehicles headed to overseas destinations.
