Detroit Public Library Press Release: Aurora to Become Hot Collector's Item

08/23/96

'Collectible Car of the Future' Is Aurora, Say Library Car Buffs

DETROIT, Aug. 21 via Individual Inc. -- Oldsmobile's
Aurora will be prized by automobile collectors of the future. That's a
forecast by car enthusiasts who voted in a poll by the Detroit Public
Library's National Automotive History Collection.

John D. Rock, vice president of General Motors and general manager of
Oldsmobile, accepted a plaque designating the Aurora as a "Collectible
Car of the Future" in a recent ceremony at the Detroit Public Library.

The Aurora was picked by readers of "Wheels," the journal of the
national Automotive History Collection, in an annual selection from
all-new vehicles produced in North America. Twenty-three new vehicles,
representing 15 different brands introduced in the 1995 model year,
were eligible. Tied with Aurora is the Buick Riviera, which will be
honored in a later presentation.

The National Automotive History Collection is the largest public
archive of automotive history in the world. It serves the industry,
scholars, writers and the public. The Friends of the Detroit Public
Library assist in supporting the Collection through a Board of
Trustees which raises funds and provides volunteer assistance.

Collection at 313-833-1456 during the hours of Tuesday, Thursday,
