Isuzu Trooper: Consumer Reports Rebuttal

WHITTIER, Calif., Aug. 20 -- The following is being
issued by Isuzu News Bureau:

Consumers Union has advised Isuzu of its rating of the 1995 and 1996
Isuzu Trooper sport-utility vehicles as "not acceptable." The October
issue of Consumer Reports, the organization's magazine, will report
the loss of vehicle stability during a simulated avoidance maneuver.

The Isuzu Trooper conforms to all applicable federal safety standards
and regulations. The Trooper has also been praised by automotive
experts and is rated as "better than" average in terms of personal
injury and property loss, according to the Highway Loss Data
Institute. Consequently, Isuzu is alarmed by Consumer Reports'
suggestion of instability during a simulated "test."

The Isuzu Trooper has been extensively tested and evaluated during its
development. It is Isuzu's position that real-world data as
represented by authoritative automotive test reports and insurance
loss ratings, as well as Trooper's full conformity with all applicable
federal safety standards, should serve as valuable counterpoints to
opinions expressed by Consumer Reports.

Consequently, Isuzu has accepted Consumer Union's invitation to review
all relevant test data and the protocols used in the simulation.
Isuzu intends to respond to Consumer Reports' findings at the
conclusion of its technical review.
