Hitachi Metals to Make Steering Pump Vanes in U.S.

08/22/96

Nikkei English News reported that Hitachi Metals Ltd. will use a subsidiary, New Port Precision, in Tennessee, to make specialty steel vanes for use in power steering pumps. The New Port Precision plant was recently set up by Hitachi Metals America Ltd., and is due to begin operations February. New Port Precision will be capitalized at $3.75 million: Hitachi Metals America will put up 80%; the rest will be covered by the Hitachi Metals affiliate.

Hitachi Metals will supply specialty steel material for the new company, which will process it into vanes for sale to Japanese-affiliated automakers and Ford Motor Co.
