Yokohama Rubber Develops Tire for Solar Car

08/09/96

Comline Transportation Wire reported that Yokohama Rubber has developed a tire specifically designed for solar cars. The new tire, the A.V. SEF1, will first be used for Mitsubishi Material's solar car. It will then be marketed for use in both solar and electric vehicles. Since motors of solar vehicles have limited electrical power, it's important to lighten the chassis and reduce air resistance. The new A.V. SEF1 is a light bias-type tire designed to reduce friction between tire and road surface.
