08/02/96
The NHTSA announced that automakers Toyota and Geo have recalled 492,422 Corollas and 135,436 Prizms because soda, water or other liquid on the console area could activate the air bag warning light during normal driving. In some cases this could actually trigger the air bag to inflate, causing injury. Dealers are to instructed to install a protective cover over the air bag sensor to prevent malfunctions caused by spilled liquids.
