Ford Recalls 106,825 Cars and Minivans

07/22/96

Ford Motor Company has announced the recall of over 100,000 cars and minivans for two separate problems.

The company will recall 99,700 1996 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable cars and Windstar minivans for a transmission problem that may allow the vehicles to roll while in park. 6,230 of the vehicles with the transmission problems are in Canada, Ford said. They did not specify how many of the affected vehicles are cars and how many are minivans. The recall marks the second safety recall for the newly redesigned Taurus. Ford is also recalling 7,125 1995 Mercury Villager minivans because the left side of the third bench seat may not latch properly to the seat rail.

Ford reports that it has received no accident reports related to either problem, and estimates that it will take less than an hour to repair either one of the problems. Ford also reported that the driver's sun visor on 2,825 1996 Probe coupes may not have the proper caution label relating to passenger side airbags.
