BMW Z3 U.S. Plant Going Into Overtime

07/17/96

The new BMW Z3 two seat sports car has really caught on, not only in the U.S., but worldwide; with the Porsche Boxster and Mercedes SLk on the horizon, the Bimmer production folks are not wasting anytime filling orders. BMW plans to stop 3-series production at the Spartanburg, S.C. plant and devote 100% of production capacity to the sporty Z3. This will raise production to over 160 Z3s per day; one-third of those cars go to Europe. In a few months the right hand drive model will roll off assembly lines bound for England and Japan.
