Hertz to Rent Vans to Carpoolers in Houston and Los Angeles

07/09/96

Hertz Corporation has taken over the administration of a program designed to provide commuters in L.A. and Houston a more convenient and cost-effective way of getting to work. The VanShare program was started in 1991 by Ford, Herz' parent company. VanShare allows groups of up to 15 commuters to rent passenger vans for one or two years at a time.

Under the program, a primary driver--which can be a company, an individual, or a municipality--can rent a new Ford Club wagon with seating configurations for nine to fifteen passengers. Standard seating and luxury commuter conversions are available. The vans have been upgraded to make commuting comfortable, with special reading lights and individual heating and air conditioning vents.

Customers will pay a monthly fee that includes a complete bumper-to-bumper warranty, Herz' 24 hour Roadside Assistance Program, all scheduled maintenance and tire replacement; as well as insurance liability, collision, and comprehensive coverage.
