Carmakers Enter the Bicycle Business
07/02/96
Jeep, Mercedes Benz and Porsche will join BMW's lead in going into the manufacture of specialized bicycles. BMW, already in the motorcycle business, launched a line of bikes four years ago under the name BMW. Jeep will sell Cherokee and Wrangler bikes for $200-$600 through retailers and some dealers. Porsche makes and sells mountain bikes and Mercedes Benz manufactures a cross country bike with disc brakes that folds up for storage in a car trunk. It will cost $3,000.00. BMW's models sell for $600-$2,000.
