Mercedes Benz Introduces New Sport Model in Mexico

06/14/96

Mercedes Benz introduced a four-cylinder C230 Kompressor in Mexico City. Earlier the carmaker debuted the car in Germany. The car will be built in MB's plant in Santiago Tianguistenco, which recently turned out its 2000th automobile and coincidentally opened its second dealership in the Mexican capital. Kompressor is technoid for a purpose built motor able to withstand the lack of oxygen in Mexico City, which is acknowledged as the smog capital of the free world. The C230 motor will have 190 HP. Prices will start at $33,400 and go up to $60 grand for the E320 introduced last fall. Through April, MB has sold 371 automobiles in Mexico--over 100 units more than they sold during the same period in 1995.
