Freightliner to Build a Pickup Truck

06/12/96

Freightliner, a company known for producing mammoth, over-the-road, semi trucks is toying with the idea of getting into the small pickup business. Why not, it's the fastest growing segment of new vehicle sales. James Hebe, Freightliner Prexy said, "Right now it is speculation, but we are looking at the market segment." The proposed pickup is no lightweight and has a 26 inch extended cab and weighs 19,000 pounds. It will be powered by a V-10 Dodge Magnum gas engine and will have a Chrysler four-speed automatic transmission.
