Ford to Recall 47,085 Cars for Problems with Rear Safety Belts

05/08/96

Reuters reported that Ford Motor Company has announced a recall that targets 47,085 Crown Victoria and Grand Marquis Sedans from the 1995 model year. Ford reports that the top anchor on outboard rear passenger shoulder belts in some of the cars may not meet federal strength requirements. 2,100 of the recalled cars are in Canada

The company announced that dealerships across the country will correct any potential problems free of charge. Owners can contact their local dealer. Ford said they think the problem resulted from improper heat treatment of certain fasteners used by one of Ford's suppliers in the seat belt anchor assemblies.
