Nigel Mansell to Race in the Indianapolis 500 ???
05/07/96
There's a rumor going around that just won't go away and it whispers that IRL, Indy Racing League, boss Tony George has offered former world F-1 champion, Nigel Mansell $2 million to compete in Tony's Indianapolis 500 race later this month. George denied the rumor first time around but it still persists and though George says he doesn't have to go this route as every seat in the house is sold, he didn't mention the TV audience war that one of the sanctioning bodies must win in order to obtain fat contracts in 1997.
TACH will be talking with Tony's main adversary, Andrew Craig, President of CART tomorrow and get his side of the story. The other brickyard rumor that will not go away is the one that says A.J.Foyt will drive one of his six entries in the May 26 race. Anthony Joseph has not denied this one and lots of people think he would like to be THE five time Indy 500 winner.
