Chrysler Owns a Bigger Share of the Car Market

05/06/96

Chrysler Corporation has announced that it captured 16.3% of the U.S. auto market during the first four months of 1996. The figures are higher than they were for the same period a year ago, when Chrysler sold only 14.4% of all new cars sold in the U.S.

The corporation said that, in terms of market share, last month was their best April ever: they captured 16.9% of the market, breaking their previous April record of 15.%, which they set in April, 1968. The figures for April 1996 were one third again higher than they had been in April 1995, based on the daily selling rate. Chrysler points out that last year's figures were limited due to a production lapse that occured when they switched some factories over to producing their redesigned minivan.
