Mitsubishi Changes Attitude About Sex Harassment Charges

05/02/96

United Press International reported that Mitsubishi has flip-flopped on the attitude they are giving the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The EEOC has sued Mitsubishi for permitting an atmosphere in which many women were sexually harassed at their plant in Normal, Illinois. The federal lawsuit against the carmaker is concurrent with 29 private lawsuits filed by former employees.

Mitsubishi's initial reaction was to pay their workers to go picket EEOC offices in Chicago, but they recently changed their tune. The company now promises to cooperate fully with the EEOC to resolve charges and has announced that it will conduct an independent review of its harassment policies.
