Hometown IndyCar Victory for Michael Andretti

04/29/96

Michael Andretti won Sunday's 200 lap IndyCar Bosch Spark Plug Grand Prix in his hometown of Nazareth, Pennsylvania on Sunday. The race was Andretti's first win of the season. CART put Andretti on probation for rough driving after incidents in the Miami Grand Prix and Long Beach. Sunday's event was the second time Andretti won in Nazareth, the last time was at the track's inaugural IndyCar race in 1987.

Andretti averaged 140.953 mph, after leading from lap 113. Greg Moore took second with a gap of 12.213 seconds. Al Unser, Jr. came in third (15.043 second gap) and Emerson Fittipaldi took fourth (15.143 seconds behind first). Pole winner Paul Tracy came in sixth.
