Sterling Marlin Wins Crash Plagued Winston Select 500 at Talladega

Sterling Marlin won his fifth career victory on a superspeedway in Talladega last Sunday. He won the Winston Select 500 with an average speed of 118.966 mph; it was his 11th top 10 victory out of his last 26 starts at Talladega.

The race saw 14 different leaders and was plagued by accidents, including one that stopped the race for about 53 minutes and involved 18 cars (lap 130).

Marlin was followed across the finish line by Dale Jarret (.22 second gap) in second and Dale Earnhardt in third. Terry Labonte took fourth, and Michael Waltrip took fifth.
