Top Businessmen to Buy International Motor Sports Association
04/29/96
Negotiations that took place two weekends ago during the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) sanctioned Grand Prix of Atlanta ended with the announcement that a group of high-powered businessmen with racing interests will buy the association from its current owner Charles Slater.
The mysterious group of businessmen include the Chief Executive Officers of Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Danka Industries, Support Net Inc., Dyssen-Kissner-Moran Corporation, and Axiom Corporation. The group plans no major changes in policy or direction for the association.
Charles Slater founded IMSA in 1969, and the association conducts such races as the 24 hours at Daytona and the 12 hours of Sebring. IMSA is based in Tampa, FL, and sanctions five racing series: the Exxon World SportsCar Championship, the Exxon Supreme GT Series, the IMSA Endurance Championship, the Ferrari Challenge, and the Slick Pro 50 Pro Series.
