MERCURY MOUNTAINEER PRICES TO START AT $27,765

DETROIT, April 22 -- The 1997-model Mercury
Mountaineer, the newest entry in the popular sport utility market, has
manufacturer's suggested retail prices of $27,765 for the base 4x2 model
and $29,765 for the all-wheel-drive version.  Suggested retail prices
for both models include destination charges of $525.

Standard equipment included in the base prices for the 1997 Mercury
Mountaineer includes a wide array of popular features, such as a
5.0 liter V-8 engine, automatic transmission, dual air bags, air
conditioning, fog lamps, electric mirrors, aluminum wheels, rear window
washer/defroster, and much more.

Two preferred equipment packages and other popular options will be
available on both models, making it easy for customers to equip their
Mercury Mountaineer with the additional features they want at attractive
prices.

Public introduction day for the Mercury Mountaineer is May 23, 1996,
but customers can order vehicles immediately from their Lincoln-Mercury
dealers.
