ESPNET reported several interesting tidbits of Indy news. IRL founder and Indianapolis Speedway President Tony George has announced that minimum speed requirement for May's Indy 500 will be set on May 10th, the Friday before pole-day quals. Earlier the IRL had said that minimum speed would be a percentage of the pole speed, but George said the teams need a speed to aim for.
Four-time Indy winner Al Unser put speculation that he would come out of retirement and race in this year's Indy 500 to rest. He has decided to remain retired.
Danny Ongais, on the other hand, will return to the Indy 500 this year as John Paul Jr's teammate, and attempt to qualify for the race. The Flyin' Hawaiian has not raced in the Indy 500 since 1987.
