Automotive Showdown in the Streets of Taipei

04/24/96

United Press International reported that Taiwan's biggest passenger car dealer, Hotai Motors, is getting ready to shoot it out with the nation's biggest commercial vehicle dealer, China Motors.

China Motors monopolized Taiwan's commercial vehicle market until Volkswagen T4 vans and the Toyota Zace broke onto the scene and provoked a 40 percent drop in China Motor's sales.

Hotai is poised to launch the Toyota Granvia, a commercial vehicle that will compete with the Mitsubishi Space Gear, the vehicle that China Motors is scheduled to launch in 1998.
