Chrysler Announces Strong International Sales

04/23/96

According to Chrysler, the corporation's over-seas sales for the first quarter of this year increased 41% over their level last year. The corporation is attributing their healthy sales to the popularity of Jeeps and Chrysler Minivans in foreign markets.

Chrysler's Asia/Pacific region saw a sales boost of 52 percent over a year ago, while their sales in Europe rose 38 percent. Chrysler sales in the Middle East/Africa rose 33 percent, and sales in Latin America rose 22 percent. The Asia/Pacific region went for the Jeep, while the Europe sales region went for the Voyager Minivan.

The corporation has just launched a right-hand drive version of the Jeep Grand Cherokee for sale in Japan, Australia, Great Britain and South Africa. Within the next year, Chrysler will launch three more Chrysler and Jeep vehicles with right-hand drive steering.

Of the 53,243 vehicles sold overseas in the first quarter, 18,723 of them were Jeep Cherokees--in both left- and right-hand drive versions. The Voyager sold 12,725 units outside of North America.
