CART: Vasser Wins at Long Beach

Jimmy Vasser won CART's IndyCar Long Beach Grand Prix on Sunday, after Gil de Ferran's engine conked out on him three laps before the end of the race. Vasser was followed across the finish line by Parker Johnstone in second, Al Unser Jr. in third, and Paul Tracy in fourth. Gil de Ferran who started from the pole position and led most of the race finished in fifth place. IRL driver Richie Hearn finished in 10th place.

Vasser led the field by a margin of 3.45 seconds and averaged 96.281 miles per hour. Long Beach is a 1.59 mile street course; 100,000 fans showed up to watch the event. Vasser's victory was the fourth straight win for both Honda and Goodyear, and his third win out of four races. Vasser leads the PPG Cup standings with 67 points.
