So Long to Mazda RX-7

04/12/96

The good old Mazda RX-7 high performance two-seat sports car has to come to the end of its road as Mazda Motor America is pulling the plug on the $35,000 vehicle.

When introduced in 1978 the Rx-7 priced at $6999 really caught on and became a hot seller and competitor in SCCA road racing events. This of course spells the end of a Mazda rotary engined powered car however Mazda showed the RX-01 concept car with rotary power last fall at the Tokyo Auto Show and the Miata/RX-7 look-alike could see production.

The Rx-7 while antiquated from the standpoint of cup holders, rear vision, kngress and egress plus stowage space is still one great performong car and a true sports car in every sense of the word.

With the "death knell' word out and some 1995s still dotting Mazda dealers back lots they could be a good buy for the enthusiast as the styling is still contemporary.
