New Volkswagen Jetta Comes with Trek Mountain Bike

04/05/96

United Press International reported that Volkswagen has adopted a novel consumer incentive program to help sell their new limited edition Jetta: the German carmaker will give a 21-speed Trek mountain bike away to everyone who buys one of the cars. The giveaway makes Volkswagen the first manufacturer to include a roof rack and mountain bike as standard equipment.

The new car, the Jetta Trek Sedan, debuts at the 96th annual New York International Auto Show, which opens to the public this weekend. The car will cost $14.500 and goes on sale this month. Volkswagen said that it and Trek Bicycle Corp. decided to work together to pursue customers with similar interests. The Bonus Bike is also a limited edition, called the Trek Jetta. Trek and Volkswagen co-sponsor a professional team of mountain bikers who will compete on the Gundig World Cup circuit and at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta.
