Chrysler Sales Up, GM expects Loss

Chrysler's sales of light vehicles in March, augmented by large rebates and consumer incentives, rose 8.1 percent over what they were in March of the previous year. GM showed a 2.2 percent decline in sales for the same period, compared to a year ago. Analysts blamed GM's loss on deliveries that may have been disrupted by April's UAW strike. GM expects it's first quarter earnings to be down about $900 million, and blames that expected loss squarely on the strike. GM's predictions far exceed the $500 million to $600 million loss that industry analysts predicted for the automaker.
