Gas Prices Up For Spring Travel

03/28/96

The American Automobile Association has reported that gas prices over this Easter/Passover season will be at least 5 cents higher than what they were last year.

Regular prices are hitting an average of $1.18 per gallon, mid-grade unleaded is at an average of $1.27 per gallon, and premium prices average at $1.35 per gallon. The AAA bases all of these average prices on the cost of self-serve gasoline from across the country. Full serve prices average at $1.42, $1.53, and $1.59 for each gallon of regular, mid-grade and premium unleaded, respectively.

Self-serve unleaded prices will be most expensive in the West ($1.25 per gallon) and cheapest in the Southeast ($1.15 per gallon). Other regional prices come in at various points in between: $1.19 for New England and the Great Lake States; $1.16 for the Mid-Atlantic states and the Midwest; and $1.18 in the Southwest.
