Auto Club of Southern California Spreads to Hawaii, New Mexico, and Texas

03/27/96

United Press International said that the Automobile Club of Southern California is buying up auto clubs in Hawaii, New Mexico, and Texas, a move that will increase their membership from 4.2 million to 5.5 million. The Auto Club of Southern California is the nation's oldest and largest affiliate of AAA, and their plans constitute the largest consolidation effort in the non-profit auto club industry.

The consolidation will be complete by the end of May, and will give Southern California club a chance to increase their businesses, which include insurance, travel and auto finance, into markets where AAA is not as visible.

Under the consolidation 900,000 members from Texas, 330,000 members from New Mexico, and 70,000 members from Hawaii will become full fledged members of the Southern California club. The new members will be able to avail themselves of all the benefits that go with a membership in Southern California, and the increased membership base will generate additional benefits for all members.
