Daytona U.S.A. Museum to Open July 5

03/27/96

United Press International reported that race fans headed towards the Pepsi 400 in Daytona this summer will get first crack at seeing the newest NASCAR attraction, Daytona U.S.A. The Museum is set to open on July 5, one day prior to the Pepsi 400 which will run at Daytona International Speedway. The main intention of the "interactive motorsports attraction" is to show race fans how Daytona got its reputation as the "World Center of Racing."

Daytona U.S.A. will be a museum for life-long race fans as well as for those who are just discovering motorsports--and there are plenty of those, as stock car racing is said to be America's fastest growing sport. Attendance at NASCAR Winston Cup races has more than doubled in the last eight years.

There'll be plenty to see at the museum, including Bluebird, the car that Sir Malcom Campbell drove while setting a world speed record in 1935; a replica of the gas station where Big Bill France founded what has today become the NASCAR circuit; and a life-sized replica of Daytona International Speedway, which is famous for it's 31 degree banked curves.
