British Rally Championship

United Press International has reported that Allister McRae will defend his champion status in the British Rally Championship which will run in Wales this weekend.

McRae, who's brother Colin is the World Rally Champion, won last year's 150 mile Vauxhall Rally of Wales and hopes for a repeat performance this year. McRae drives a Ford Escort Cosworth. Last year's runner up, Welsh driver Gwyndaf Evans, will be on the road again this year in his Ford Escort RS2000.

For the first time this year Skoda UK will join the field of familiar giants Renault, Ford, Volkswagen, Nissan, and Peugeot, for the manufacturers' championship.

The British Rally begins Friday with a new Euro Wirral double stage, continues through the Welsh forests, and finishes in Chester on Saturday evening.
