Mitsubishi Makes Deal with Indian Firm

NikkeiNet reported that Mitsubishi has entered into a technology support agreement with Mahindra & Mahindra, a major Indian automobile manufacturer. Starting in late 1996 Mahindra & Mahindra are supposed to begin producing the Mitsubishi Delica.

Mitsubishi Motors will provide the Delica's body design and parts, while Mitsubishi's South African partner (South Africa Motor) will provide assembly technology assistance and welding facilities. Mahindra & Mahindra will build diesel engines and transmissions.

Production goals have been set at 6,000 units in 1997 and 8,000 for the year 2,000.
