PPG IndyCar Series in Brazil

03/15/96

Reuters reported that Brazil is ready for the PPG IndyCar series event that will take place at the Emerson Fittipaldi Speedway Oval in Rio De Janeiro this Sunday. At least a dozen Brazilian drivers have raced the open wheel circuit in recent years, led by Emerson Fittipaldi, who has two Indy 500 wins and the 1989 season title to his credit. Sunday's Rio 400 will see its share of Brazilian drivers as Raul Boesel, Gil de Ferran, Andre Ribeiro, Marco Greco, Roberto Moreno and Christian Fittipaldi, join Emerson on the track.

Emerson, who drives for Penske-Hogan, said "it would be wonderful to win the first Rio 400. If one of the Brazilians win, it will be a very big celebration.'' Sunday's race will cover 400 kilometers, or 248.5 miles, and 133 laps on the 1.8-mile modified oval.
