NASCAR Fines John Andretti for Bad Behavior
03/06/96
The Associated Press reported that NASCAR has slapped John Andretti with a $2,000 fine for ramming Bobby Hamilton's car after the checkered flag flew at last Sunday's Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
Andy Hall, a spokesman for NASCAR, said NASCAR fined Andretti for "conduct detrimental to the sport of auto racing." Bobby Hamilton said that he locked his brakes down when Andretti tried to hit him. Andretti said that he was just going to bump Hamilton in retaliation for a bump he had received from Hamilton, but that Hamilton's defensive maneuver of locking up his brakes caused Andretti to ram Hamilton's car, caving in it's whole rear end.
