Simplification of Ford Product Line Could Cost jobs

03/06/96

The Associated Press reported that Ford's plans to reduce their new product line will result in a reduction in the number of employees who are directly involved in developing new cars for the automaker. The New York Times had reported that 6,000 positions would be eliminated from Ford's 29,000 product development staff. Ford would not confirm the report but did say that substantial reductions have already been made and that cuts would involve contract employees rather than layoffs of Ford staff.
