Purvis Drives from Pole to Victory Lane in Hardee's Fried Chicken Challenge
03/05/96
ESPNET reported that Jeff Purvis drove his Chevrolet Monte Carlo from pole position to victory lane in last weekend's NASCAR Busch Grand National division race, the Hardee's Fried Chicken Challenge 250 at Richmond International Raceway.
Purvis averaged 98.168 mph and captured the race's top prize of $17,900. The top four finishers behind Purvis were Joe Nemechek, David Green, Mike Wallace, and Curtis Markham.
Purvis' victory marked the second win from the pole in this year's Grand National Series (Mark Martin won the Goodwrench Service 200 from the pole last week). The win was only the series' fourth victory from the pole since 1992.
The race should put David Green and Randy Lajoie in the lead in NASCAR Grand National Series point standings with 442 points each, and Purvis should be third with 403 points.
