Second position for the start of the race went to Labonte's teammate, Jeff Gordon who qualified at 123.496 mph. Labonte and Gordon also captured pole and second position for the Hendrick Motorsport team at the previous week's Goodwrench Service 400 at Rockingham. Both drivers are trying to increase their luck.
