Harrods Joins the 1996 World GT Endurance Championship.

03/01/96

Harrods, arguably the world's most famous department store situated in London, England, have decided to sponsor a 2OO miles per hour McLaren F1 sportscar in the forthcoming World GT Endurance Championships.

The team-under the Mach 1 banner-entered the foray half-way through l995 and proved to be highly successful from the word go. After finishing 3rd in the most famous of all endurance races, the Le Mans 24 hour race the team went on to win the last three races of the season in England, France and in China. Team boss Moody Fayed - nephew of the store's owner Mohamed Al Fayed - was understandably bullish during the launch on 27th February.

"I formed a team last year after the start of the season. This year we aim to win outright and as Harrods Racing we will ensure even higher standards of professionalism both commercially and technically. I am very touched that my Uncle trusts me enough to sponsor my team and I am thrilled by his support. I am sure he will not be disappointed".

For the l996 season, which commences at the Paul Ricard circuit in the South of France on 2nd March, the car will be driven by Olivier Grouillard and Andy Wallace. The highly experienced David Price will be team manager. Andy Wallace is a former winner of the Le Mans 24 hours race whilst Olivier is a very quick ex-Formula One driver who fitted into the team brilliantly when he joined in September l995.
