Jeff Burton Does Right by Jack Roush

03/01/96

The Associated Press reported the success of Jeff Burton, who started driving for Jack Roush this season. Roush added the third car to his stable this year, and everyone expected him to add a good driver to complement the established presence of Mark Martin and Ted Musgrave, both of whom drive for him. Jeff Burton is filling that slot nicely.

In the Daytona 500, Martin finished fourth, Burton sixth, and Musgrave came in seventh. It was a respectable showing for Roush Racing. The following race in Rockingham didn't treat the team quite so well, as Musgrave and Martin finished 31st and 32nd. Burton placed well, however, coming in 13th in a 41 car field.

Burton's team was assembled only three months ago, but it's doing everything right. The team received high marks from it's well experienced and established chief, Buddy Parrott, former crew chief to Richard Petty. Parrott expressed his pride and remarked that the team hit on a good combination of people. "We can't do anything but get better from here," Parrott added.
