Chrysler and US Government Announce Supercar Research

02/26/96

The Associated Press reported that Chrysler and the US Department of Energy announced an $84 million research program. The research will concentrate on developing a hybrid propulsion system for cars. Hybrid cars combine two or more power sources to attain lower emissions and greater efficiency. Chrysler will be responsible for the research; costs will be shared by the automaker, the government and some of Chrysler's suppliers. The research will concentrate on technologies that range from direct-injection diesel engines, electric motors, and ultracapacitors, to high-powered batteries.
