1997 French Grand Prix Not at Le Castellet?

02/26/96

Motorsports News International reported that the future site of the French Formula One Grand Prix is in question. Several weeks ago it had been announced that the French Motor Sports Association had chosen Le Castellet as the site for the Grand Prix for 1997 and the following 5 years.

Last week officials from the track in Le Castellet said that the Formula One Constructor's Association (FOCA) told them that they could not sign a contract to build a track at Le Castellet, as they are already under contract to build one in Magny-Cours (the event's current site) in 1997. Le Castellet officials said they will ask the French Motor Sports Association to intervene.
