Schumacher was unable to race in the morning because of trouble with the V10 engine and gearbox of his 412 T2 Ferrari. A new V10 was flown in from Fiorano, Italy, and Schumacher hit the track in the afternoon. A report from Atlas Team F1 on Thursday February 22, tells that Schumacher raced the whole Grand Prix distance (453 km) during Thursday's practice and clocked 1:21.08. Unfortunately Schumacher's car caught fire when he drove into the pitbox. Major damage was prevented, as firemen were nearby.
