UAW Gets Ready for Negotiations

02/23/96

The Associated Press reported that the United Auto Workers have announced their national bargaining committees. UAW represents about 400,000 workers: approximately 220,000 at General Motors; 105,000 at Ford, and 74,000 at Chrysler. Negotiations will start in June; the agreements the union and the automakers reach will replace a three-year contract that expires on September 15. The contracts cover issues like wages and benefits, working conditions, and grievance procedures at more than 225 unionized facilities which comprise car and truck assembly plants, parts factories, and engineering and design centers.
