Fast Speeds in Estoril: F1 Testing

02/22/96

Atlas Team F1 has reported some quick speeds on the F1 track in Estoril, Portugal, as drivers continue to test their new cars for the up and coming season. The weather in Estoril seems to have cleared up and the drivers are back on the track making up for lost time.

A series of record speeds has been set and broken, as Damon Hill, Mika Hakkinen, and Rubens Barrichello successively bested each other. Hill set a record at 1:21.10, Hakkinen beat it with 1:20.87. Hill replied to the flying Finn's speed, with another good lap, but at 1:20.95, it just wasn't fast enough to win the record back. Hakkinen's record didn't stand for long, though, as Barrichello clocked an impressive 1:19.93. Barrichello's record stands . . . for now . . .
