Mercedes-Benz and Porsche to Join Forces?

02/21/96

NikkeiNet is reporting that Mercedes-Benz and Porsche are negotiating the terms of a venture in which they would develop and produce vehicles jointly. The combined efforts of the automakers would most likely focus on producing luxury sport utility vehicles.

Porsche, renowned for engine development and body design, has produced engines on consignment for Mercedes-Benz before (the E350 engine). There has been speculation that Porsche was looking for a perspective buyer, even though the company reported their first profits in four years during the fiscal year that ended last July.
