Editor's Note: I know that this is a story about the island country of Barbados buying 35 Electric Buses from BYD, but as I was getting this story ready for inclusion in The Auto Channel million pages of auto content I couldn't but remember the wonderful visits I have had in Barbados. It offered me everything you would want in a visit...beaches, food, history, clean safe streets, The Barbados Arts Council, Oldest Synagogue in the Western Hemisphere, sa great fish market...most importantly it is populated by wonderful friendly interesting people...If I had the chance of publishing The Auto Channel from Barbados for 12 months I surely would, sounds like heaven to me...

Barbados - On August 22, BYD delivered the first electric bus fleet for public transport in the Caribbean, opening up an exciting new chapter in the region’s efforts to tackle climate change. BYD, Megapower LTD and the Barbados Transport Board launched 33 new electric buses on to the Bajan streets, which represents one of the largest public transport systems per capita in the Americas. Additionally, 2 more buses will come by this December to totally complete 35 buses.

This event represents a particularly important goal for Barbados National Climate Change Plan, which has been designed to achieve the island nation’s goals for 100% renewable energy and carbon neutrality by 2030.

The Transport Board is thrilled to partner with BYD and Megapower Ltd, BYD’s local representative, on this project. This initiative solidifies the Government's commitment to reducing the use of fossil fuels by 2030.
