Canada's Cole Thompson Confirmed to Race in Only Supercross Event North Of The Border

TORONTO, Feb. 9, 2017 /CNW/ - The 2017 Monster Energy AMA Supercross continues their Southwestern U.S. swing this weekend in Texas, but in three weeks the world's premier off-road motorcycle racing championship heads north to Toronto's Rogers Centre, for their only Canadian date, Saturday, March 4.
This heart-pounding event packs the perfect punch of action and adrenaline into every minute, as these superbly conditioned Supercross riders – a hybrid of world-class soccer players and bull riders - fearlessly navigate obstacles that launch them as high as 30 feet in the air, covering distances upwards of 90 feet, all while manhandling a 225-pound motorcycle against 21 other competitors.
They race on a custom-designed track unique to Rogers Centre, which takes a team of 100 people four days to construct, using roughly 500 truckloads (26 million pounds) of dirt.
Reigning Canadian motocross MX2 champion, Cole Thompson of Brigden, ON, has confirmed that he'll race in Toronto next month in the Eastern Regional 250SX class, as part of a six-race Supercross program with KTM Canada's factory team, KTM Thor Racing, with support from Parts Canada.
For the 23-year-old rider, who rode his first dirt bike at the age of two and was groomed for success by his father and four older brothers (all talented motocross racers themselves), the opportunity to race in front of a stadium full of Canadian fans, is an experience he cherishes.
"Every year the Monster Energy Supercross Toronto grows, so for me it's always cool to race at Rogers Centre and show the Canadian fans what I can do," said Thompson, whose 2014 fifth-place finish in the 250SX feature was his best Toronto result in three tries. "It's a special race for me to come home to, and with lots of friends, family and fans there to support me, I definitely get the loudest cheer of the night," he said with a smile.
The 17-race Monster Energy Supercross series features the reigning 450SX Champion, Ryan Dungey, along with marquee names like Eli Tomac, James Stewart, Chad Reed and Justin Barcia.
The Saturday, March 4th schedule starts at 12 noon with an afternoon of qualifying. The Main Event evening show begins at 6:30 pm, with the first gate drop at 7:00 pm.
