The New Bezalel Hotel in Jerusalem

TEL AVIV, Israel, Jan. 18, 2017 -- In the heart of Jerusalem, next to the historic Bezalel Art School near Mahane Yehuda Market, sits the new Atlas Boutique Hotel: Bezalel. As befits its location the new hotel dedicates itself to local design culture yet the spirit of the lively Mahane Yehuda market can also be felt in the hotel atmosphere.

Housed in a restored landmark building, the 37 room hotel added six new floors to create the final structure. The hotel is completely dedicated to Israeli design; the entire space and all rooms combine Israeli art with unique materials.  All furniture and decorative pieces in the hotel were carefully chosen to both reflect the special characteristics of the Nachlaot neighborhood, where the hotel resides, and to express a general sense of the local culture and enchanting atmosphere that characterizes the streets of Jerusalem.

As it is so close to the hotel, the designers were heavy influenced by the original Bezalel Art School building in their conceptual approach. Their design goal was to connect hotel guests to the unique energy, culture and history that make up Jerusalem.  A good example includes light fixtures, designed by Naama Hofman, that can be found throughout all hotel public spaces. The fixtures are a hybrid between functional lights and suspended works of art.  Examples also include the design of the hand woven rugs found in the guest rooms and hallways. The design is based on molded concrete painted tiles, which is a typical style found in Israel.

The hotel also includes much artistic collaboration. One collaboration is with the famous Jerusalem Print Workshop.  The result of the collaboration can be found on the walls of all guest rooms which are decorated with print works of many important artists. Artists include: Larry Abramson, Moshe Gershuni, Hila Ben Ari, Nili Agassi, Meydad Eliyahu and more.

Influences from the Mahane Yehudah Market, located right by the hotel, are strongly felt in the hotel menu.  The menu is based on a traditional Jerusalem style kitchen with all ingredients coming directly from the market. Guests are served a rich and quality breakfast and refreshments in the late afternoon to early evening hours in the dining room, which leads to a private courtyard where guests can enjoy a relaxing moment in the fresh air.

In the words of Danny Lipman and Leslie Adler, Managing Directors of Atlas Hotels,: "Thanks to its narrow and picturesque streets, long-standing history and a colorful, diverse market the Nachlaot neighborhood clearly stands out as one of the most unique and beautiful locations in Israel, which makes it such a popular attraction for both local and foreign tourists.  We hope that Bezalel, the younger sister to two already existing Atlas Boutique Hotels in Jerusalem, will function not only as a main attraction of tours in the area but will stand on its own as a cultural design experience of the highest quality."
