World's Largest Car Rental Company Recognized for Best Practices in Workplace Training and Development

ST. LOUIS, Oct. 19, 2016 -- Enterprise Holdings Inc. was honored this month as a 2016 BEST Award winner by the Association for Talent Development (ATD). The 16th annual BEST Awards ceremony was held Oct. 5, 2016 in Washington, D.C. Enterprise ranked No. 14 on the elite list of 36 organizations from Canada, Denmark, India, Scotland, Taiwan and the United States.

Enterprise Holdings is the largest car rental company in the world as measured by revenue, fleet and employees. The company operates – through an integrated global network of regional subsidiaries and independent franchises – the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands in more than 85 countries.

"These 36 companies set a high standard for the profession. They are solving business challenges through talent development practices, and they are doing it in innovative ways," said Tony Bingham, ATD President and CEO. "Leaders in these organizations understand the strategic role learning has, and they are committed to investing in the growth and development of their people."

The ATD BEST Award is one of several honors Enterprise Holdings has earned this year for its world-class professional development initiatives. Other recent accolades include:

  • Chief Learning Officer magazine named Enterprise Holdings a gold 2016 LearningElite organization, recognizing the company for exemplary workforce development strategies that deliver outstanding business results;
  • Training magazine, the leading business publication for learning and development professionals, ranked Enterprise Holdings No. 60 on its Training Top 125 in 2016; and
  • Workforce magazine included Enterprise Holdings on its 2016 Workforce 100 list, which recognizes excellence in multiple human resources-related areas, such as recruiting, learning, leadership and diversity.

"These awards reinforce the strength of our training and development programs, which enable employees to pursue successful, meaningful careers," said Steve McCarty, vice president of talent development at Enterprise Holdings Inc. "While we set high expectations for new hires, we also make sure they are supervised by and learning from the best. This culture of learning is what really sets Enterprise apart from other employers."

Promote-from-within culture

Enterprise Holdings' culture is built on a set of founding values that not only fosters professional development, but also a strong promote-from-within philosophy. In fact, a major driver of the company's promote-from-within culture is the renowned Enterprise Rent-A-Car Management Training program, which is consistently successful in developing new hires into the next generation of business leaders.

Management Trainees receive a hands-on experience that teaches them how to run a business, empower teams and provide excellent face-to-face customer service. Other hallmarks of the program include extensive training in a wide range of business skills, including profit and loss management, business-to-business marketing and sales, and operational logistics.

Enterprise employees have a chance to advance their careers quickly, thanks in large part to the thorough preparation they receive in the Management Training program. In addition, the company's promote-from-within culture is a driving force behind its need to recruit thousands of innovative, college-educated individuals each year. Last year nearly 15,000 employees were promoted or took on new challenges in various positions throughout the company, contributing to new opportunities for recently hired management trainees and the need to add even more. For the second straight year, CollegeGrad.com ranked Enterprise the No. 1 Entry-Level Employer of college graduates for 2016.

The company takes employee development very seriously, basing promotions in large part on managers' ability to retain and develop their employees. Enterprise Holdings employs a philosophy of learning that focuses on job shadowing and active learning. Managers play a crucial role in the process, providing on-the-job support that is critical to the company's success in building a strong bench of leaders.

With a breadth of job opportunities and business functions to support the company's operations, Enterprise Holdings offers employees the opportunity to switch careers without switching companies. In support of this concept, last year Enterprise Holdings' Talent Development department significantly upgraded the company's internal careers website to provide information about career mobility.
